Factors to consider before buying a laptop.
There are many things to consider when buying a laptop. These include battery life, weight or how you will be using it. As I am an applied psychology student I wouldn't need a laptop that is too extravagant. I would only need one that has simple features.
How I am going to use my laptop: As i am only going to be using the laptop for simple emailing, word processing and PowerPoint i wont be interested in a laptop with the best processor and that big of a memory. As I am in college it would need to be portable rather then a bulky and rugged model as i would be carrying it around alot. The weight of the power cable and other attachments need to be considered as well.
Battery Life:As a college student i will be using my laptop alot of the time around the campus where there may not be a power supply so choosing a laptop with a long battery lifespan is a key factor. Remember larger laptops have larger batteries but this may not suit some students as it may hinder travel.
Using your laptop:With applied psychology there is alot of computer use so your laptop is a very important feature of your student life. Most laptops have a cramped keyboard so at least choose try to find a laptop with a keyboard with which you can comfortably type. Durability is also very important. With all the assignments and projects that come with applied psychology you will be taking your laptop around with you alot of the time. You might want to consider a model with a shock resistant hard drive. This will enable you to use your laptop during bumpy rides and surviving falls to the ground. If at all possible you should give your laptop a test drive to make sure it is compatible with your style of computer use. This is necessary because when you buy a laptop it is keep the whole laptop or throw away the whole laptop as it is very difficult to replace specific parts of the laptop itself.
Laptop display:Buying a laptop with a high definition display maybe unnecessary for me as a student as it would be more expensive in the buying process. A regular display would suit my computer use just fine.

Social networking has hidden dangers for teens.
Millions of teens from all over the world share there thoughts and pictures with each other everyday, but some things that are shared will later haunt them for life.
From behind their bedroom doors more then one out of every ten teenagers have posted a nude or semi-nude picture of themselves or others online a "digital tattoo" as it is known. Aside form the nudity recent surveys have shown that at least a quarter of young people polled and posted something they have later regretted, made fun of others or created a false identity online.
While teens are spending huge amounts of time on social networking sites like facebook - with twenty two percent of teens saying they check their sites more then ten times a day. Even with this excessive use of their page they do not seem to understand the long term damage they could do at a click of a button. Also their parents generally have little idea about how much time they are spending online.
Experiments have been done to see what teens actually do online and alot was discovered. It showed that if you go online you can almost read every thought a teen has and that they don't always self-censor. They may bully class mates or post risque photos of themselves. The reason for this is because if teens aren't in the same place as the other person it feels less personal and it becomes easier to do and say mean things that could potentially hurt the other person. It is almost simulated behavior. These things can have massive consequences. For example that alcohol related post-party picture. Someday an employer could check out these photos and it could incriminate your future careers. Hitting delete does not always solve the problem as this picture could already be filling up peoples screens all over the world.
What is social networking.
This is the internet phenomenon that has taken Ireland by storm over the last five years. It comes in the form of Facebook,Bebo and twitter.
Social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups, almost into communities. Social networking can happen face to face eg.college but it is most popular online. The reason for this is because instead of small groups networking face to face millions of people can do it online and discuss different topics eg.music and sport. As previously mentioned above thses site come in the form of Facebook ans Bebo but it can even be more direct eg.MSN chat rooms.
One of the many benefits that comes from these networking sites is the friends you make and how diverse they can be. For example you could be in America and develop an online friendship or even a relationship with a person in Denmark. Not only will you make these friends but you might learn something about different cultures and different languages and learning is always a good thing.
Social networking often involves grouping specific individuals or organizations as already stated. These site focus on specific interests, there are other sites that do not. These websites without a main focus are often refered to as "Traditional" social networking websites and are normally open for anyone to join. This means that anyone from the public can join. However once inside this online community you can create your own network of friends and pick and choose who can become a member. Along with the ample benefits there are also many problems associated with social networking these include identity theft, viruses, data theft and paedophilia.

The Saints go marching in
After only being in austrailia for two weeks the the two young footballers from the kingdom David Moran and Tommy Walsh have seriously impressed at St.Kilda. The Melbourne Austrailian football team have said that they are very impreed with how the two lads have taken to training even after the long flight and the seering heat down under. Both players are perfectionists and will no doubt keep impressing as the trial continues. Walsh, who was a star player in this years inter county championship has already secured a two year contract with his new club.
